38 people die after Chilean military plane crashes en route to Antarctica

A Chilean military plane with 38 people on board disappeared en route to Antarctica on Tuesday 10th December. Rescue workers confirmed that human remains and debris was later found in the area where the plane went missing on Wednesday 12th December, and there were no survivors.

Those dead included 17 crew and 21 passengers.

They were travelling to provide logistical support to a military base on Antarctica's King George Island. An air force statement said that the plane was about 450 miles (725km) into its 770-mile journey when contact was lost, placing it within the Drake Passage.
