Police launch manhunt for escaped terror suspect from Wandsworth Prison

Daniel Abed Khalife, a 21-year-old terror suspect, has escaped from HMP Wandsworth in London, triggering a nationwide manhunt.

Khalife, accused of various terror offences, including violating the Official Secrets Act and posing a threat to national security, fled custody on the morning of Wednesday 6th September 2023.

Khalife, a former soldier stationed at Beacon Barracks in Beaconside, Stafford, allegedly accessed classified military information from Ministry of Defence personnel files. This information is believed to have been of interest to potential terrorists.

He is also accused of a bomb hoax earlier in 2023 when he left what appeared to be “three canisters with wires” on a desk in his Army lodgings on Monday 2nd January 2023, causing alarm among his colleagues.

The escape from Wandsworth Prison has prompted an intensive search by law enforcement agencies nationwide. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

The BBC political editor, Chris Mason, reported that Khalife managed to escape the prison by strapping himself to the underside of a food delivery van.

It is thought Khalife was working in the prison kitchens at the time and may have been dressed in a chef’s uniform.

The Metropolitan Police said he is 6ft 2ins and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, red, white chequered trousers and brown steel-toe cap boots.

They also said he is “most likely” still in the London area and has links to Kingston.
