Crowd attending wrestling event urged to get tested for HIV

People who attended a wrestling event on Sunday 23rd June in New Albany, Indiana are being urged to get tested for HIV.

The Floyd County Health Department is investigating the crowd’s possible exposure to HIV and hepatitis C. In a release, the agency says those who attended the Welcome to the Wreckroom Pro Wrestling event were exposed to blood or bodily fluids.

Co-promoter John Glenn said that he believes the health department is calling for the testing as a precaution. He says none of his wrestlers were positive for any blood-borne pathogens. He says he thoroughly made sure all of their paperwork was in order before the Sunday event.

Glenn says the most severe injury occurred when a wrestler was slammed through a door with a glass pane. The wrestler’s buttocks were supposed to shield the blow, but instead, his upper body was lacerated. The performer is out of the hospital and ready to wrestle again, Glenn said.

However, Glenn says his company has suspended wrestling operations in New Albany after the incident.
