A man from Maryland died on Wednesday 29th May after setting himself on fire outside of the White House.
United States Park Police identified the man as 33-year-old Arnav Gupta, of Bethesda, Maryland. Gupta died from his injuries in hospital on Wednesday evening.
First responders were able to extinguish Gupta in The Ellipse and he was taken to the hospital. A Secret Service officer was also transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
The Ellipse is a park just south of the White House, where the National Christmas Tree is located.
