A rollercoaster train derailed in Stockholm on Sunday 25th June 2023, killing one person and causing injuries to nine others, according to authorities.
Eyewitnesses recounted a chaotic scene on the Jetline rollercoaster at Gröna Lund amusement park, as the front portion of the train appeared to jump off the tracks before coming to a stop, with one car tilting towards the ground.
Jan Eriksson, the park’s chief executive, stated that the front of the train partially derailed and came to rest at a height ranging from 6 to 8 meters (20 to 25 feet) above the ground.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the incident, dispatching helicopters, ambulances, and fire engines to the scene.
Police and park officials confirmed that nine people were receiving medical treatment at the hospital, with three classified as having severe injuries.
A statement posted on Gröna Lund’s website acknowledged the seriousness of the accident and mentioned ongoing collaboration with rescue services.
As a result, Gröna Lund, a historic park with a 140-year-old legacy, was temporarily closed until further notice.
