A 45-year-old tortoise almost set his owners’ home on fire on Christmas Day after pushing a heat lamp onto its bedding.
When the smoke alarm went off, neighbours called the fire brigade and the tortoise was successfully rescued from the blaze by the Essex County Fire & Rescue Service at the house near Uttlesford, Essex.
