22 people dead in fire at illegal care home in Siberia

A fire at an illegal care home in Kemerovo, Siberia resulted in the deaths of 22 people, according to Russia’s emergencies ministry. Six other people were injured in the fire when the top floor of the wooden building was completely destroyed by the overnight blaze.

The fire occurred early in the morning of Saturday 24th December 2022 in a two-storey wooden building in the industrial city of Kemerovo, which is located more than 2,000 miles east of Moscow. It is believed that the fire may have been caused by a faulty boiler.

Russian officials stated that the private care facility for older people, where the fire occurred, was operating illegally.

According to local media reports, an evangelical pastor who is believed to have been operating the nursing home was detained for questioning in connection with the fire.
