A 21-year-old woman died when she was thrown from a hill near the historic Neuschwanstein Castle in southern Germany on Wednesday 14th June 2023.

Eva Liu was attacked alongside her 22-year-old friend, Kelsey Chang, who was also seriously injured after she tried to stop the assailant, but a fallen tree stopped her from plunging all the way into the ravine.

Reports indicate that Liu and Chang, both American tourists and recent graduates of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, had embarked on a hike near the famous “Marienbrücke” bridge, known for its picturesque views of Neuschwanstein Castle.

During their hike, they encountered a 30-year-old American man who they did not know and whose identity has not been disclosed by the police.

The man convinced Liu and Chang to follow him down a hidden trail leading to a viewpoint.

Shortly after reaching the viewpoint, the man attacked Liu and threw her down a slope where she fell approximately 165 feet down a ravine, leading to her death.

Following the incident, the assailant initially fled the scene but was subsequently detained by the authorities. The police did not release the name of the suspect.

Neuschwanstein Castle, sometimes known as the “Cinderella Castle,” is one of Germany’s most popular tourist attractions due to its fairytale-like appearance.
