Twenty horses have been discovered shot to death in the past week in Kentucky, according to authorities, and prompted a police investigation. The hunt for the perpetrator or perpetrators of the crime is still ongoing.

Some of the horses were pregnant mares, while others were up to one-year-old foals, according to Dumas Rescue, a nearby animal rescue organisation. A $20,000 (£15,460) reward is being offered.

The eastern Kentucky herd of roughly 35 horses covers a vast territory, making it challenging to find survivors. The dead horses were dispersed over a considerable area, according to Tonya Conn of Dumas Rescue, and it looks like they were hunted.

Police reported that a low-calibre weapon had been used to shoot the horses.
