A 69-year-old woman was killed on Tuesday 4th July 2023 after being attacked by an alligator while walking her dog in South Carolina.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a possible alligator attack near a lagoon that borders a golf course on Hilton Head Island around 9:28 a.m.
Upon arrival, officials discovered the body of the woman, a resident of the Spanish Wells community, lying near the edge of the lagoon.
While emergency rescue efforts were underway, an alligator emerged from the lagoon and appeared to be guarding the woman, hindering the responders’ attempts to provide immediate aid, as stated by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities managed to safely remove the alligator from the area, allowing them to recover the woman’s body.
The exact circumstances leading to the attack and when the victim entered the water remain unclear.
