A 27-year-old airport employee was sucked into a Delta Air Lines plane’s engine shortly after it landed at San Antonio International Airport on Friday 23rd June 2023.
Officials initially expressed concerns about safety procedures, but the investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) ruled the death as a suicide.
Grief counsellors were made available to airport employees to provide support.
A source familiar with the case, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disclosed on Sunday that the worker appeared to have intentionally stepped in front of the live engine.
The victim, identified as David Renner, suffered blunt and sharp-force injuries according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office.
The Delta Air Lines plane involved in the incident had flown in from Los Angeles and was in the process of pulling up to the terminal at the time of the incident, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
