A Nigerian Pastor has apologised after being arrested in Abuja for carrying an assault rifle on the altar.
The Nigerian Police Force arrested Pastor Uche Aigbe on Monday 13th February 2023 after photos of him carrying an AK-47 whilst preaching at the House on the Rock church in Abuja began circulating.
According to a statement by the Federal Capital Territory Police, the pastor, along with the Church Chief Security Officer and Inspector who was on duty that day, were arrested in the early hours of Monday.
The police arrested the inspector because he “unprofessionally released his rifle to the said pastor without permission,” the statement added.
On Tuesday 21st February, Aigbe posted a video on the church’s social media page, in which he expressed disappointment in himself for using a firearm to illustrate a passage in the scripture.
The decision that I made to use that firearm was not thoughtful. It has left me disappointed in myself.
